has any one taken the foundations of personal finance exam through university of phoenix?

January 5th, 2013 1 comment

Wanting to know what to expect, I studied for days for the midterm and then it was basically nothing but there’s alot more information to cover now.

Save your money. You can learn all this yourself without paying tuition. Simply spend at least an hour every day reading financial articles on the web and downloading MP3 files to listen to on the go. One of my favorite MP3 shows is the Ray Lucia Show. Search around and you will find more to read and listen to than you have time for. If you must take a formal curriculum, use Yahoo! or other reputable search for "CFP" programs, and go to a real school school that offers CFP courses online.

How can I post my article about investing on yahoo Finance?

January 1st, 2013 1 comment

I have written an article about investing for people who have no experience/little experience. How can I publish it on Yahoo Finance?

Finance doesn’t require experience, it requires life-skills, maturity and personal goals.

If you haven’t covered these in your article (things like having an emergency fund, avoiding debt, buying a home instead of renting), then I would just do the world a favor and delete your article and start over.

If you have included these things, try to turn it into a book and get paid for it.

Is majoring in Finance a good way to make money?

If my goal is to make money, is finance a good choice?

It was on a list of top 10 degrees that will be in most demand for the next 20 years.
Salary: $87,900 a year (average mid-career right now). Not starting pay.
3. Financial analysts and personal financial advisors

The future is going to be rough.
Thank you for choosing something that will at least put food on your plate when you are 30. I keep seeing kids taking art, music, photography in college. Well knowing that they will spend years trying to find a job that will allow them to buy food. Chasing a dream is one thing. Being realistic about our future economy is another

For personal financial management computer programs, are there ones that address debt repayment?

December 14th, 2012 2 comments

Money management software like Quicken have lots of helpful features but they don’t list anything about repaying debt. I am sure another feature could be used, but it would be nice if there was a program that had that specific feature.

BTW I mean the kind of debt that you don’t get bills for, or ones that you can repay at your own pace…

Send me an e-mail: vilkri@yahoo.com. We are beta testing an application right now that may help you do that. I am not sure though, because I do not quite understand what you are trying to get from a computer program.

My questions keep getting reported for no reason, and Yahoo won’t respond to my appeals?

December 10th, 2012 3 comments

I think a troll is stalking me, so I made my questions private. I asked a question about some tips to make money online in my spare time in the personal finance section, and it was reported and taken down. I know I didn’t break the rules because I asked that question in the past before. After it was taken down, I reposted it again and it was taken down, so I posted it a 3rd and eventually 4th time and they were still reported. Then I asked a question in the Yahoo Answers section (this same section that this question is posted in) about why my questions were removed and that was also reported. I appealed my violations, but they haven’t responded yet. Does anyone know what’s going on?

Asking how to make money in that section is often seen as simply a way to post spam answers with another account. Particularly if you keep doing it again and again. While YOU know you are reposting because of the prior removal, all others know is the same question keeps showing up
And posting repeatedly in a category is considered spamming in itself. So take a break, try to find other ways to ask the question so it doesn’t look the same. And wait several hours between posts.

December 4th, 2012 1 comment

I own LNNGF and I can’t seem to get a share price update any sooner then once every two days. I’ve tried Yahoo Finance as well as broker sites to no avail.

How do i begin dealing with mutual funds?

December 4th, 2012 5 comments

I’ve just started working after college, and i’m looking for some advice on mutual funds – any books, ideas or personal experience would be great —
thank you!

Alright, let me first say that the answer that recommended moneycentral is a good one…the answer that said mutual funds are a bad investment is wayyyyy off… and the long answer with several sites may make you think it’s all way too complicated.
First, understand what the funds are… they are a collection of stocks that you buy shares in if you buy into the fund. Simple enough…where it gets complicated is: a collection of WHAT stocks? That’s why there are so many different funds…all are different avenues/ approachs to the same goal: invest to make money.
A weekend of reading at a few places should familiarize you with what’s available… and maybe what suits your age and goals. moneycentral, yahoo/finance, beginnersinvest.about.com
Those places give you the basics…then comes your choices: are you going to start with an IRA account or just a regular brokerage account…. then comes picking the funds you will initially invest in: do you just want to " start investing" or are you going to actively try to get better and better returns? Either approach is good for your future…just a question of " different strokes".
You can learn to compare funds using yahoo/finance…or MSN/money ( may have come with your computer) or money central msn/cnbc.
If you are going to be passive just buy into a " balanced " or " blended" or even a " life–cycle" fund ( the name of the fund usually includes your approximate retirement date…all companies have ’em just give them different names)
One suggestion: even if you are going to be passive, make that first fund something that includes " international" or " global" ( just a fact of life – that’s where the money is being made right now and for a few years to come)
If you are going to be more involved…get into a couple of funds… in sectors that look to have potential…like " energy"..
or " emerging markets" .. " telecom"
Also, read up on ETF’s…if your first investment is going to be under say $ 3000. , you probably can only get into one ( maybe two) mutual funds…but with ETF’s you can take " smaller bites" and spread your money into 3 or 4 sectors.
Last…you mentioned " just started working"…does your employer offer a 401k ? That can be your first introduction to " investing" if they do. If they do…be sure to get in…and contribute a percentage of your pay ( it should AT LEAST be an amount equal to what your employer will " match")
If you are " on your own"…don’t be overwhelmed by all these terms, choices, and opinions…it’s NOT anywhere near as complicated as it sounds…after you take the first steps it becomes soooo simple…just keep your eye on things.
Okay, one more " hint": there are some pretty decent people here on answers…if you read some answers and click on some of the " top contributors" and view a lot of their past answers…you may find a lot of info you can use…just something to do if it rains or you’re snowbound.
Good luck.

If you go to the credit union and receive an auto loan then 6months later receive a small personal loan for?

November 26th, 2012 4 comments

$600, how long do you have to wait in order to receive another personal loan if your loans are up to date and paid on time. I live in SC.

The first poster is correct. It really depends on a number of factors. The lenders will be less concerned with how recently you had your personal loan as they will be with the total amount of debt you currently carry versus your income. If they believe you can reasonably afford to make the new loan payment with your current level of debt and income, then they will give you the loan. Understand that banks are very tight with their lending right now, so personal loans are harder to come by.

Here is an article from yahoo about places to borrow money from, http://finance.yahoo.com/loans/article/104653/Borrowing-Options-That-Offer-a-Lifeline?mod=oneclick . One of the best options they give is social, or P2P lending. Here is the social lending site that I use, http://join.lendingclub.com/borrowing.php?src=67555&reg_referrer=samoan3d . It is free to sign up and get a rate quote, so you don’t have to worry about a catch. If you sign up, let me know your username and I will try to help fund your loan.

Can anyone help me with starting a budget?

November 20th, 2012 11 comments

I have struggled and struggled in starting a personal budget is there anyone out there who can help me start a personal budget that I can stick too? Or do you know of any sites that I can go to who will help me in starting a personal budget. Or, maybe a company that specializes in planning a personal budget. Help Please.

first make a list of the monies you make each year (salary, income, alimony, et cetera)… then make a list of the expenses you have (only the must stuff like car payment, food, utilities, sex lubricant)… then subtract the two and as long as you make more than you spend you are okay…

check out quicken.com or yahoo finance for real in depth assistance…

Good luck
