Any tips for a new waitress at Olive Garden? I’m nervous and supposed to do my first alone shift tomorrow?

December 24th, 2012 5 comments

I have been in training for this past week, and can’t quite seem to get my opening "speech" about the wine and appetizer and entree down. i also haven’t been fully trained on the dash and i am so scared i am going to just be lost tomorrow. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! It’s a lunch shift on a Saturday- eeeek!

Hi! Well, being a waitress at Olive Garden myself, here is what I do.
They sit down and for opening speech i always say the same thing…
"hi how are you (ladies/gentlemen) today? can i get you started with a glass of wine or an italian soda? ok, great. and how about an appetizer? do you want me to get some calamari or stuffed mushrooms going while you are looking over the menu? ok, i’ll be right back with you drinks."
then i usually always grab a basket of breadsticks at the same time as the drinks. that way if i get a new table in the meantime, they can still munch on the bread until i get them their soup/salad/appetizers… it saves a lot of stress trying to rush everything out at once and also saves the ping pong trips back and forth to the kitchen.
another thing is SMILE. seriously. it gets you everywhere. ALSO, in todays society, alot of women influence their finances and will have alot to do with your tip, so pay more attention to the women than the men, even if it is easier to flirt with men to increase tips, NEVER do it if a woman is present, instead, make it personal to her, by complimenting her outfit/hair or talking to her baby/child.
i hope this helps…good luck and "welcome to the family" 🙂

How Can I Get Good Credit After Bankruptcy?

December 18th, 2012 5 comments

I am almost 7 years out of BK as of March ’07. I have a car loan and a couple low limit but hight interest credit cards that I have paid on religiously since.
I keep looking for better deals, but anytime I apply I get bankruptcy as the reason for denial.
How long will it take for me to get back to where I was. I had perfect credit before a personal and financial breakdown.
Please only answer if you really know what your talking about. Thanks!

Get a copy of your credit report for free from www.annualcreditreport.com – the Federal government has instructed the three major credit reporting agencies to provide reports free of charge annually. Analyze your credit report to see what stands out and where the problems are. After seven years, the issues should start disappearing, but you should make sure that whatever is still listed is explained.

Contact the credit reporting agencies and work with them to provide explanations for the information on your credit report. If you’ve paid something off and it’s not reflected on there, make sure that gets changed. If something was beyond your control, you have the right to be able to attach an explanation.

Since you do have credit cards, light but regular usage of these should boost your credit rating. Try to never carry balance from month to month if you can, but at the very least pay off as much as you can to keep your interest payments down.

I would make extra efforts to pay off the card with the lowest balance. Keep the account open, but do NOT use that card. Then work to pay off the next lowest balance until you have only one card. Limiting your number of cards will make it far easier to control your finances. There is no practical advantage to spreading your debt across multiple cards.

The attached article also has some good ideas. Hopefully it will help! Good luck!

Should I Go To College?

October 8th, 2012 3 comments

I know what you’re thinking… This kid probably is stupid right? Yeah, that’s what I thought you’d think. But please, take the time and read this through, and maybe you’ll get my point.

I’m 16, and a Junior at High School right now, and Im graduating this year. I’m currently a program where I can SKIP my senior year, and start life early. Personally… I just wanted to start college a year early, which sounds like a good idea.

But the profession I want to go into… Are computers.

Basically, I want to be that one company/small-business run by Somebody/I (Or just me) that makes computers. somebody would email/call/meet me, and dicuss what kind of computer that want, EX: Gaming, business, personal, etc. And I customize and sell it to them. It could be on a small scale, or they could order hundreds of computers. Computers have always interested me.

I’m currently in a program called "Banking and Finance" where I’ve learned the basics to starting a business. I’m the top of my school is Terminology/Typing Speed.

Anyway, it probably sounds like I should be going to college, getting a degree, and becoming a multimillionaire, right? That’s what I would like to think.

What if I went to college, learned EVERYTHING about technology, had a good 2-3 years in my business (Paying off my college debts), and then technology evolves? Everything I learned will of been wasted…

I was thinking of just starting fresh out of high school. Maybe take a class to learn the basics of coding/programming/hardware, etc. (I already know a decent amount) (I already built my own/ a friends computer before) I want you guys to tell me if I’m right or not.

This business… In this economy? Just seems to work. Thanks for taking your time to read this, goodbye!

Yes. You should def. go. You’ll be glad you did in the long run. 🙂
Also, thanks for what you said on my question. It’s nice to know what to do from a guy’s perspective. :p

Thanks!

What are some tips to save money and what is the best type of account to open for savings in Canada?

September 25th, 2012 2 comments

I am single in my early thirties, and I only have $1500 in savings right now. I am trying to rebuild my finances after a devastating personal and financial loss. Suggestions anyone? I would be forever grateful :))

The Canadian government is just implimenting a "Tax Free Savings Account" this month. It lets you save money and you don’t have to pay tax on any gains you make from interest, etc in the account. You can contribute up to $5,000 per year. Ask at your bank how to open one.

Why is the supposed "liberal" media making personal conjectures in news articles against Obama?

September 21st, 2012 9 comments

Bush did this kind of thing all the time when he did something the public wouldn’t like and the Media NEVER called him on it.

""Obama’s campaign disclosed the joint appearance — but offered few details — one day after announcing that he would reverse from an earlier position to reject some $85 million in public financing for the general election. That announcement opened him up to a flood of criticism and dominated the news cycle.

*** Thus, Obama’s campaign sought to redirect attention by putting word out a full seven days in advance that Obama and Clinton would campaign together. *** ""

OK – she’s a republican shill.

but why are they still publishing her biased articles?

The news media is neither liberal nor conservative. The news media publishes whatever they feel will make them the most money by creating the most controversy.

What are some really good money management tips for a college student?

August 26th, 2012 4 comments

I am really horrible at managing my money, and having to be fairly independent in college is not helping the situation. I work to make personal spending money, but I will eventually have to start paying off student loans, plus every so often something important that I have to pay for comes up. How do I handle my paychecks so that I am not blowing them within a week?

First pay yourself by putting 20% of your check into a saving account "just incase". Really, you should have at least $1,000 in an emergency fund, but do what you can do. Second, make a budget and stick to it. Use the "envelope system" and keep a preset amount of cash in an envelope… when the money is gone for the week/month, so is your spending.
