Can your force a news station to remove information from their website?

January 24th, 2013 1 comment

The news source reported incorrectly on an event, listed a friend’s personal information (where he lives and works.) They have been asked repeatedly to remove it, and have been told the correct information regarding the incident, the said friend is not involved with said story, but news source a week from the date it was published still refuses to remove the information from the article.
Is there anything that we can legally do to force the news source to take it down?
The news source actually never lets stories go. They just get archived, but can easily be found on the page and they still show up in a google search for the person’s name.

Sure. Get a lawyer and file suit against the news organization. Seek an injunction against them that court-orders them to take the info off the sight, or pay damages for slander and libel. You will likely be out thousands of dollars up front for the lawyer’s retainer fee, and you will finance him by the hour with cash in advance every step of the way.

Or, consider that the bell has already been rung—the info is out there now; you can’t take it back, even if it is removed from the website. What’s more, news websites can’t generate any interest publishing old news stories; eventually, the story will drop off the site on its own. Why spend a fortune trying to make it happen faster, when your ultimate goal is inevitable?

If you really want their attention, start up a website, (name of news source here)sucks.com and start slandering the crap out of them. You will hear from them right away! Then you can say, take your story down, I’ll take my site down.

How would I go about saving money?

January 11th, 2013 4 comments

I feel like I have gotten everything materialistic that I want. I want to start saving money, but I have a bank account. I wanted to start grabbing my money and put it inside a small jar. One for my girlfriends surgery in 6 months, the other in a charity jar for a church that lives close by. Are there any tips on this?
Nah it aint my girlfriends boobs lol

I have lots of little secrets to save money. The most important thing is to document all of your spending. This way you can see where your money is going and what percentages you spend in certain categories such as: FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, ENTERTAINMENT, SOCIAL, ETC. Break your spending down and see EXACTLY where your money is going. Take control of your money, don’t let it control you!

Here’s a few easy tips anyone can do:

1. Carpool
2. Buy clothes and other items at thrift stores
3. Use Coupons
4. Pack your lunch for work/school
5. Stop dining out so much
6. Drink water
7. Instead of gym memberships, look up exercises on YouTube
8. Do-it-yourself home repairs. (Don’t know how? Google it.)
9. Use the internet for entertainment
10. READ READ READ. I would suggest reading material that has something to do with personal finance or budgeting. You can never learn enough and there are countless tips available. For instance, this forum is a wonderful place to start.

😀 I would recommend a book called Money Saving Tips: A Poor Man’s Guide to Prosperity. You can get it on Amazon. It is VERY USEFUL and easy to read. I inserted the link below.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amoney+saving+tips+a+poor+man%27s+guide+to+prosperity&keywords=money+saving+tips+a+poor+man%27s+guide+to+prosperity&ie=UTF8&qid=1347387437&ajr=0

I would also note that just Googling "money saving tips" will help you tremendously. Just use the internet at your disposal. Be creative! There are TONS of ideas and useful ways to save money. You just have to proactively seek these things and you will find them. Of course, it will take a little discipline, but it is well worth it!

I wish you all the best of luck! May your lives be wealthy, healthy, and satisfied!

How to get buzz going for an online business?

January 11th, 2013 6 comments

How do I get buzz going for an online community so everyone talks about it? it is not a local site. It is a match site, such as match.com or monster.com. We match capital seekers and capital providers, just like job site matching job seekers and job providers, and personal site matching men and women.

"If you build it, they will come" is not necessarily true on the Web. Putting a website up is one thing, but getting visitors to come to your site is another. The process becomes even more difficult if you have limited resources to market your business.

Here are some marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News. My website (see my profile) accepts free press release submission (no strings attached!)

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

For example, if you submit articles on my Getting Financing section of my site http://www.powerhomebiz.com/financing/financing.htm you will stand a great chance of reaching people who are looking for capital.

The above strategies are very simple to do, but they can bring in loads of traffic without spending too much. Of course, if you have the resources, you can also utilize pay per click strategies or other advertising mechanisms to reach your target audience.

Are there any good portfolio trackers out there?

January 9th, 2013 1 comment

I’m looking for a portfolio tracker that is free and easy to use. I also don’t want to provide any personal information.

Google Finance tracker is excellent. No need for an app. Articles are OK but I go to finviz for those.

Morgan Drexen and Money Management International?

January 3rd, 2013 1 comment

Can ya’ll please help me? Is Morgan Drexen and/or Money Management International legit companies? Do they really help you with your debt or are they just a scam?? I’m getting mixed reviews searching Google. Thanks for any help.

I signed up for Money Management International about six months ago. They do save a lot of money but I would not recommend them. I just found out my credit score has dropped tremendously because they have made 12 late payments. Also, forget about getting a house anytime soon. Credit Counseling is Chapter 13 bankruptcy which means you will not be approved for anything for two years after your debt is paid off. I would say if you don’t plan on buying anything big within the next several years it would pay off. For me, I regret signing up for it. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I would like to invest in the stock market but first I need to educate myself- Where do I start?

December 14th, 2012 7 comments

I have around £7000 which I wish to invest and hopefully make some money, the thing is I’m totally clueless so I need to read up on the subject.
Which books or internet resources should someone read if they want to learn the basics of the stock market and also more advanced material?
Thanks
-Matt

I agree that now is not the time for beginners in the stock market. Today is a good example of how quickly you could lose 3-5% of your money in just one day.

For the meantime put your money in a short term (year or less) CD and during this year read up on investing while the market finishes bottoming out. You can read up on investing at the educational sections of any of the discount brokerages. Vanguard, Fidelity, Etrade, TDAmeritrade, all have self education sections for new investors. Read, read read and then set up a test portfolio on Yahoo Finance and then track your stock choices for a year. When you have a good feel for what you are doing then take your money out of your CD and open a discount brokerage account and start investing.

Stay away from stock touts right now unless you want to lose your money. Watch Yahoo & Google Finance every day for trends in the stock market. Also read sites like The Motley Fool http://www.fool.com/ Self education will help save your money plus make you more. Be patient because right now the market is a dangerous place where it would be easy to lose much of your money if you chose the wrong investments. Wait until the market turnaround to invest and by then be self educated enough to invest wisely.

A good read on mutual funds for new investors is Bogle on Mutual Funds. Bogle owns Vanguard Funds so he knows what he is talking about regarding investing in mutual funds.

Any suggestions for a business and personal software accounts package?

December 4th, 2012 4 comments

I don’t really like MS Money. Are there any good alternatives out there, either free or buy? I run a small business and would like business and personal finance in one package, would appreciate some advice please. Many thanks

MS Money is not designed to run a business. There are advantages in separating your personal finances and your business – ask your Accountant.

Yes, you will find cheap/free accounting software, but this is the one area that you should invest in, no matter how small your business.

This link is interesting if you are considering accounting software.
http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/awards/

Sage Instant Accounts is perfect for the small business. Almost all UK Accountants will recommend Sage products. It will set you back £100 on Amazon.co.uk, but will be money well spent. If you think your business may grow, or you want to keep your Accountant happy, then choose Sage.

Quickbooks Simple Start is £24 on Amazon.co.uk – and is popular and another good path to choose. Just make sure you switch to Sage if things take off.

Mamut have a free product with limited functionality, but a clear upgrade path:

You may find that software is available for your type of business – and this could possibly be more suitable than a generic accounting package. Try a google search for "<your business> software".

How to share stock portfolio on Yahoo Finance?

November 26th, 2012 1 comment

I am looking to create an online stock portfolio for several people to be able to access so they can track the assets. It can be in Google Finance, Yahoo Finance, or wherever I can get this to work.

Thanks!

You can make a stock watch list on Yahoo Finance and some others sites also. The problem is, you and each person that views the watch list will have to use the same email address and password. If you want to make some watch lists from one address for others to see it, you could make a second email address and password on yahoo and tell everyone what the address and password is. By having a second email address will keep others from getting to your personal mail on your main address. It’s a little tricky to make a Yahoo watch list but this is how I do it:

> Sign Out on Yahoo mail and create a new account
> Yahoo Finance
> My Portfolios
> Create Portfolio in drop-down window
> Track a symbol witch list
> Type the Portfolio Name & put the stock symbols
> Finish
> Click Edit on the side of Basics
1- Symbol
2- Last Trade (with time)
3- Change
4- Day’s Value Change
5- Shares Owned
6- Volume
7- Price Paid
8- Holding Value
9- Holding Gain & Percent
10- Notes (date when you bought)

Does anyone have tips on how to save for a car quick?

November 24th, 2012 3 comments

I am 18 and living on my own in my first apartment. My car just broke down and I need to save for a new one. I don’t mind a used car but as it is my savings is pretty empty. Everything I had went into getting the car checked out only to find out it’s beyond saving. If anyone has any tips for saving money quick I would really appreciate it.

I have lots of little secrets to save money. The most important thing is to document all of your spending. This way you can see where your money is going and what percentages you spend in certain categories such as: FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, ENTERTAINMENT, SOCIAL, ETC. Take control of your money, don’t let it control you!

Here’s a few easy tips anyone can do:

1. Carpool or public transportation
2. Buy clothes and other items at thrift stores
3. Use internet for entertainment (youtube, games, etc)
4. Pack your lunch for work/school
5. Stop dining out so much
6. Drink water
7. Instead of gym memberships, look up exercises on YouTube
8. Do-it-yourself home repairs. (Don’t know how? Google it.)
9. Use the internet to make money! Sell unwanted items you don’t use and make some extra cash on ebay or amazon or craigslist
10. READ READ READ. I would suggest reading material that has something to do with personal finance or budgeting. You can never learn enough and there are countless tips available. For instance, this forum is a wonderful place to start.

I actually wrote a simple "how-to" guide on the subject called Money Saving Tips: A Poor Man’s Guide to Prosperity. You can get it on Amazon. It is VERY USEFUL and easy to read. I inserted the link below.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amoney+saving+tips+a+poor+man%27s+guide+to+prosperity&keywords=money+saving+tips+a+poor+man%27s+guide+to+prosperity&ie=UTF8&qid=1347387437&ajr=0

I would also note that just Googling "money saving tips" will help you tremendously. Just use the internet at your disposal. Be creative! There are TONS of ideas and useful ways to save money. You just have to proactively seek these things and you will find them. Of course, it will take a little discipline, but it is well worth it!

Also, decide between your "needs" and "wants". Often times, we waste money on things we want, but do not need. It took me a while to understand this, but you will be surprised by the money you save in the long run. I would also suggest trying to quit habits such as smoking or excess drinking. Your body will appreciate this!

And if you are a coffee drinker, make your own coffee! Why pay $5 a cup at Starbucks when you can make a whole weeks’ worth for that amount!

I wish you all the best of luck! May your lives be wealthy, healthy, and satisfied!
