Double major in Finance and Accounting or the personal financial advisor program at K-state?

February 22nd, 2013 1 comment

I am a freshman at kansas state university, and I was wondering what major I should choose. I am not completely sure if I want to be a personal financial advisor, or even do anything in finance, but right now it is at the top of my list. I have heard that KSU has one of the best programs for personal financial advising and is also tops for their finance and accounting majors. Which would be better for a potential career in personal financial advising?

I read an article that in the future older people are going to need more help with investing that ever before. Pensions are no longer existent (for the most part) and people retiring have no idea what to do with their 401K plans. You might just have a really good future.

Personal financing for regular folks does not work.
These people generally have no money to pay you the big bucks you will want.
Middle class people read magazines and educated themselves in finances so they do not need help. Rich people just call Goldman Sachs.

what is the average length of a 9gag post?

January 19th, 2013 1 comment

what is the average length of all those 6 million posts? in cm or inches, doesn’t matter.
and also how many words there is in an average 9gag post?

That all depends on what type of post you are making…

If it’s blog post, see below…

Celebrity Gossip, Web News and Gadget blogs tend to post short articles. However, don’t forget that these blogs are known to post multiple times per day and I know one of them publishes more than 20 posts, daily. Sites in industries like Marketing, Finance and Personal Development post less (1-7 times per week) but write much longer articles. [I post this info because these blogs are related to the 9gag site you are referring to]

What is the best way to budget?

January 17th, 2013 4 comments

I find that one of the most difficult things to do is budgeting income allocation on expenses. I make a decent living but find that I pay my bills and have nothing left over to take care of unexpected expenses. Are there any suggestions on how to budget appropriately and prioritize expenses?

There’s no cookie-cutter solution for this one. All I can do is refer you to a finance blog I visit every now and then, they have a few articles on budgeting.

What are some great books for investing?

January 13th, 2013 5 comments

So i’m 17 and going to turn 18 september this year. I’ve been wanting to invest money but i’m not old enough -_- I’m interested in stocks, property renting, and CD’s. I would also like to learn about investing for retirement so i can retire around my early 50’s.I was told saving accounts were best than roth IRA’s, but personally i dont know much on how retirement accounts work. Any good books? I took a micoreconomics class at my community college but i learnt nothing about personal finance.
I apologize for any incorrectly written words or wrong use a grammar. I tend to think faster than i write.
But learnt is a word. Past participle of learn. Means to acquire knowledge of.

Would writing PLR articles be a good way to make money?

December 26th, 2012 1 comment

I am considering writing high-quality PLR articles on the topics of real estate (including commercial RE) and finance, as these are my fields of expertise. I also have a writing background. Is there enough demand for high quality PLR articles (as opposed to cheap bulk articles)? I’m thinking of selling packs of 8 with a limit of 150 or so?

In a word, yes. There is a huge demand high-quality PLR articles in an virtually unlimited number of niches, including real estate. Selling PLR content can be lucrative if you’re willing to put in the time to create it and the patience to allow your PLR business to build. Selling PLR isn’t an overnight cash machine at the beginning, but once you’ve been a solid reputation of providing quality content, you can literally make thousands of dollars every few days.

I’ve been writing PLR content for a couple months now and am just now starting to see income from in. Patience is key, as is knowing the niches you want to write for, either through personal experience (which you have) or research.

If it’s something you know and enjoy writing about, I say go for it. The time & cost requirement to get started isn’t huge, so the risk is minimal.

Is majoring in Finance a good way to make money?

If my goal is to make money, is finance a good choice?

It was on a list of top 10 degrees that will be in most demand for the next 20 years.
Salary: $87,900 a year (average mid-career right now). Not starting pay.
3. Financial analysts and personal financial advisors

The future is going to be rough.
Thank you for choosing something that will at least put food on your plate when you are 30. I keep seeing kids taking art, music, photography in college. Well knowing that they will spend years trying to find a job that will allow them to buy food. Chasing a dream is one thing. Being realistic about our future economy is another

How do you sell a motorcycle that is currently financed?

December 2nd, 2012 3 comments

In 2008 I bought a brand new Kawasaki Ninja Motorcycle, I currently owe about 6900 bucks on it, and it is finance through HSBC Bank, I am wanting some tips on how to sell it to someone willing to take up payments on it. How do I go about selling it, what are the steps I need to take, what is the easiest way to do it? Please explain because I am new to this!

First thing you need to understand is this. If the buyer doesn’t have the cash to pay for the bike, don’t sell it to them. Putting yourself in the position of being their personal bank is setting you up for a financial disaster because THEY WILL DEFAULT and when they do it’s all coming back on you.

Don’t put yourself in that situation It’s not worth the risk. If the buyer doesn’t have cash, they don’t get the bike. It’s just that simple.

All you need to do to sell the bike is take the money the buyer gives you, pay off your loan and when you get the title from the bank sign it over to the buyer. If you do it any other way your name will always be on the bike and anything that happens to the bike or the loan is your responsibility.

Should a 23 year old start worrying about 401k, IRA, and all that?

December 2nd, 2012 6 comments

Should 23 year olds know about 401k, IRA and all that? I know nothing about any terminology regarding finance. I just graduated from college so I know more stuff about science and girls than planning to have enough money to last me from retirement to death. What age should a person start worrying about these terms?

Short answer: YES. Even if you start small, just start. Time is your best friend when it comes to retirement planning, and the sooner you start the easier it will be.

I used to be a stock broker, and I can’t tell you how many people put off saving for retirement until their 30’s or 40’s, only to realize that they would NEVER be able to retire. Don’t let that happen to you.

If you have a job, find out about your employer’s 401k plan. If the company matches your contributions, be sure you set aside AT LEAST enough to get the full company match. Then be sure to raise your % contribution every time your pay increases – EVERY time. If you don’t have a 401k option available to you, then open a Roth IRA with a reputable mutual fund company like Vanguard, T. Rowe Price or Fidelity (my personal favorites). Start with a Target Date fund (with a target of 2045 or 2050) – this will get you on your way.

Then head down to your local library or book store and pick up one or two books on the basics of investing/retirement planning. This stuff is not all that complicated, but it is VERY important to know.

I hope that helps. Good luck!!

Can anyone help me with starting a budget?

November 20th, 2012 11 comments

I have struggled and struggled in starting a personal budget is there anyone out there who can help me start a personal budget that I can stick too? Or do you know of any sites that I can go to who will help me in starting a personal budget. Or, maybe a company that specializes in planning a personal budget. Help Please.

first make a list of the monies you make each year (salary, income, alimony, et cetera)… then make a list of the expenses you have (only the must stuff like car payment, food, utilities, sex lubricant)… then subtract the two and as long as you make more than you spend you are okay…

check out quicken.com or yahoo finance for real in depth assistance…

Where can I find potential investors in order to finance my own idependent film?

September 4th, 2012 1 comment

I’m in the process of polishing my script and am now thinking about potential investors in order to create my movie. I’ve heard about websites like "kickstarter" but im living in LA now and would like a more personal approach. Any tips my fellow peers?

Get yourself a copy of "Independent Feature Film Production" by Gregory Goodell. The book will give you a good idea what you need to assemble to present to investors and other financial matters.
