I want to hear your advice to a 25 year old?
What advice would you give to a 25 year old? ANYTHING is appreciated, whether it is a tip for better cooking, a general revelation about personal finance, or how to do great in society.
Love yourself. IF you cannot love yourself you couldn’t possibly really love anyone else or ever find any happiness until you learn to love yourself for who you are first. Your opinion of your self is the only opinion that matters.
Learn to read recipes. It’s not difficult to do but there are some terms that might be confusing. If you can follow recipe directions you can cook. And even if the only thing you can afford is Ramen that’s okay it’s not forever if you work hard at school or work. Most millionaires built their fortune from nothing. Famous actors and singers even started with nothing. It’s cheaper to cook yourself from scratch than to buy frozen foods and healthier too. A lot of recipes ask for similar things. You’d be amazed at how many things call for flour, salt, sugar, and such. To limit temptation only shop the perimeter of the grocery store. That’s where produce, meats, and diary are and that’s the staple of everything you need.
Pay your retirement first. Don’t worry about kid’s college or yours. There are scholarships, grants and loans. There is no free money or loans for retirement. If you don’t have a retirement fund you are screwed when you reach that age. You can set up an allotment to go into your retirement fund every month so you never see that money and it’s automatic. Treat that retirement fund like you treat your bills. It’s priority.
If you are in debt and worried about it.. call your creditors.. they don’t want your car or tv or whatever because it depreciates in value. They just want money. They can defer payment and understand if you got laid off, dealing with a family tragedy or something that has milked you dry. Just call them up and if they say no ask to speak with a manager. They will work with you to drop payments, reduce APR, waive the yearly fee.. whatever it is they will actually help. ALWAYS pay off the debt with the highest interest rate first. It is costing you the most money no matter what debt you have on it. You can at anytime decline them raising your credit limit or ask them to reduce it if they do it automatically. You don’t need a high limit unless you are running a major business and it should only be used for business expenses. Never mix business with personal.
NEVER loan money you need or don’t have. If you have the money and it won’t hurt you if you never saw it again then you can give it to family or friends or the boyfriend/girlfriend.. if you expect the money back and they don’t pay it will wreck relationships you don’t want wrecked. NEVER co-sign a loan for anyone. Protect yourself first. If you’re married make sure it’s someone worth it.
Infidelity is a deal breaker. Only forgive it if they stopped ALL contact with the mistress and you can let it go. If you are always going to worry about it, accuse them of it, and pry into everything they do then it’s not healthy and shouldn’t take them back.
If you have a bad feeling about something.. if you’re worried about your significant other hiding something.. they probably are. Always trust your instincts. It might not be infidelity at all so don’t jump to that. If you’ve always had access to their facebook or something and suddenly you don’t.. it’s a huge red flag. When you’re married if you have nothing to hide then things will be open and easy.
It doesn’t matter if you are male or female or somewhere in between.. even if you don’t wish to control the finances always know how to and know what is going where and have access to everything. Something might happen to your significant other and you might be forced to take over.
Always communicate. Never clam up.

If you didn’t go to college, go back now.
Don’t have unprotected sex.
Tell the truth and be honest always.
Don’t buy anything on credit if you won’t be able to pay it off when the bill comes. (Doesn’t include cars and homes!)

Establish good credit now. It’s nearly impossible to rebuild but effortless to maintain.
Establish a good reputation now. Character counts in personal relationships and professional ones.
College is easier before kids and a mortgage.
Always use a condom unless you’re ready to have kids.
Eat healthy and exercise now, if you’re not already. It’s much harder to establish good habits later.
Travel.
A crappy apartment and ramen is ok. At least it’s your crappy apartment and ramen.
Save your money. Don’t get yourself into debt with "stuff". Save for your retirement now. No, you do not need that new stereo/pair of shoes/car. Make do with what you have.
Keeping up with friends is very important. It may seem like fun now, but you’ll need them later.
The government is not there to bail you out. You’re there to bail yourself out. Who do you think pays for the government?

You are so serious on here. I’m investing in Tessla Motors Incorporated tomorrow. They are going public for the first time so I’m going to try to buy a few shares. I think electric cars will be the transportation of the future. You might want to check them out. They are supposed to open at between $14 and $16 per share. I put in order in for 350 shares at $14. It may open higher than that so I may not be buying anything. If they wind up making money it will be in the "future" when they start making cars that the general public can afford to buy.
