Does any know of a budget program that will help me organize my personal finances?

I have tried to put my family on a budget, but doesn’t seem to be working. If anyone knows of a link or website to where I can get a simple budget plan, I would greatly appreciate it.

I wrote an application I’m trying to show people. It lets you enter your expenses in a calendar format and plan ahead for purchases and for balances in your bank account. Its much better than the standard biweekly or monthly budget, which tell you nothing about a given day when you go to make purchases.
Access is free for the next 6 months probably. Give it a try. I’d love to hear feedback also.

I subscribe to a free personal finance newsletter. It’s a pretty good newsletter, plus they’re running a special now where you get free budget templates plus two free e-books when you sign up. One book is on personal finance in general and the other is all about budgeting. (The second one isn’t mentioned on the sign-up page but you get the link after you confirm your subscription.)

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Try the Wells Fargo hands on banking site, has all types of information and maybe a little more for you as well.
Its a fun site for all ages.

Quicken or Microsoft money are good. However, be careful that you are not just accounting…..budgeting means setting a realistic amount of money for each category and sticking to it, not merely putting down where you spent it.

There is a fantastic, all-in-one budget and expense tracking calculator at the link below which my wife (who is an accountant) uses herself. But if you really want something super simple, the simplest thing to do is to just use a notepad and pencil, following these steps:

    1) List the categories of expenses you have; such as credit card bills, mortgage, utilities, insurance, food, etc.

    2) Each time you make a purchase or a payment, jot down the amount (and date) in the appropriate category. This also helps you keep track of your receipts, too, and you will see in what areas you spend your money most.

If you want desktop type software that does this for you automatically, you can get the info and the download at the link below.

I use an Excel worksheet. You can see all of your expenses for the month (and year) in one glance.

If you’d like a copy, just email me!
