Can an Accountant help with budgeting and personal finance?
I’m currently studying accounting at college and plan to be an accountant/financial professional with possibly opening a financial services firm eventually. My question is, besides taxes, can being an accountant serve any advantage with budgeting and smart spending?
Accounting is the basis for all financial matters. For background clients like to see CPA and CFP on your business card. So you would want to start as a tax person at a large CPA firm since taxes are basic to all financial planning and then get into planning and investments.
of course you can become whatever you want. this depends upon what professional course you will decide to undertake after your college. if you want to specialise in financial accounting, you can do ACCA-association of certified chartered accountants or ACA. on the other hand, if you want to specialise in management accounting, that is ocncerning costing and budget, you have to do CIMA-chartered institute of management accounts.

If you’re in accounting and wanting to do tax work you’ll need to become a CPA. With that certification you can pretty much do anything in accounting but you might also consider becoming a certified financial planner. If you work in a tax firm the latter won’t do you much good really but clients might like to see it. The CPA is basically all encompassing.

Yes absolutely. Other people even hire accountants for forecast for expenses in preparation for retirement.

No. Accountants are used for measuring the money spent and received. You need to learn personal financial management. Of coarse, Accountant will help in budgeting.
