Do you approve of the government asking people to snitch on people who don’t like the health care bill?
In his post on the White House blog, Macon Phillips, White House director of new media, wrote:
"There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care."
"These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain e-mails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an e-mail or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."
An attorney for Red State noted that the White House’s actions may be in violation of current U.S. law:
"According to 5 U.S.C. § 552a, United States agencies, including the Executive Office of the President shall, ‘maintain no record describing how any individual exercises rights guaranteed by the First Amendment unless expressly authorized by statute or by the individual about whom the record is maintained or unless pertinent to and within the scope of an authorized law enforcement activity.’"
Attorney Eric Erickson noted, "This will be the first significant time the White House has ignored the Privacy Act and may open President Obama up to litigation."
Mattie, it is illegal for them to even receive those reports, and we all know they will go in a database.

No I don’t approve, and everyone in our country should be outraged by it. I think it is a direct reflection of how poorly they believe in their own bill. I think the reason they are doing it is because they spent the past 8 years slandering the past president ( calling him a dictator) every time he opened his mouth and they were able to convince the majority of this country that he was at fault for all their troubles. Now when people are starting to see through the wool that they allowed to be pulled over their eyes they don’t like it. I think it is a major sign of how out of control this regime is (and out of their league) and of where they want to take this country.
It is the most disgusting and pathetic thing I have yet see ANY white house power holder do. They should be ashamed and we should be allowed to try them for treason. They are going directly against what this country stands for.
I reported myself! Geez I thought we were free to voice our disapproval. I say everyone who disagrees blow that website up with turning ourselves in. Wonder if they would get the message?

Slander, liable, and misinformation are wrong. Gov. agencies have been looking for key words for a long time now. Nothing new here. Shoot, Dub was snooping into regular people’s emails illegally. So, yeah, I think snitching on people who are spreading lies and misinformation for nefarious reasons is otay!!

Reporting the spread of false information in an attempt to stop the rumors is different than reporting on someone else’s every action or dislike of something.

I don’t think that they’re trying to get people to report others who don’t like the healthcare bill, I think they’re trying to stop circulation of emails and other information about the bill that is incorrect. I’m not talking about opinionated emails, I’m talking about those that don’t actually give the facts.
And I don’t really think what the white house is doing here is an invasion of privacy, because they don’t require anyone to do anything, and it doesn’t mean that if they find someone sending false information that they will (or even can for that matter) take away their right to free speech. They would probably counter these guys by making press releases that clarify points that had been mislead. According to the law you quoted, its only illegal to keep record of the individual said, it wouldn’t be illegal to find out what people in general are saying and take action to fix the misinformation taking place.

Why go from the best health care in the world, to a Canadian style of health care? Why go from what we have to a rationed health care system where we can’t see a doctor or get medical care for six months?

Fight fire with fire. The Fat Cat Insurance Companies are spending millions of dollars in a smear campaign, against competition in health care coverage that most people want. Old people having to kill themselves is a lie perpetrated by Big Insurance. Their interest is their corporate profit and not what’s best in any business called, competition. Lets again make it a country, by the people for the people, instead of a country by the corporation for the corporation.
