Is it a bad idea to join the military right after getting married?

Just curious what you think.

Not if you and your wife fully understand what your obligations are. As long as you both understand that you will have a military lifestyle, then ok. If you do not talk with your wife and have honest conversations about join, BAD IDEA. Also, make sure that if you do go in, please, make sure that both of you understand how to balance a checkbook and that you understand the basics of personal finance. Many, many military marriages end due to money problems. In addition, if you are both young, make sure that your relationship is solid. If things are shakey before, they will be worse after you join. If kids are involved, make sure that she fully understands that you can and will be deployed and she will basically be a single parent while you are away. Many spouses do not understand this and this too causes many problems.

If you are a guy, and you look like that gay azz picture in your profile? You should marry the first chick who says yes.

If you are a girl and your name is Kay, then I have some advice. I will assume you will be the wife and the man is joining the military? You will not be making that much money. Base pay is around $1400. Food money another $323. You will get on average about $1,000 for rent money.

Ok, but your real money to pay normal bills (car, credit card, etc) is out of that 1400 and 323. So what will you do? Work? Go to school? Pop out babies? Long story short you need a career also. Work or school. You do not want to depend on and Enlisted persons pay. And if you stay home and have kid after kid you will just be poorer.

That depends entirely on you and your spouse. Is this something you have discussed? Is he/she completely on board with this idea. Does your spouse, and you, understand that you could be deployed within six months of enlisting and you could be gone for a year?

These are all things to consider. I enlisted in DEP in between my junior and senior year and married after HS graduation and left for OSUT within two weeks. But my wife knew what we were getting into. good luck!
