Good "Personal Finance 101" type of book for early career types?

Just looking for a decent book that’s sort of a ‘finance 101’ type of thing. There’s a ton of these types of books out there, just wondering what’s a good one so I’m not wasting my time.

I’m in my 20’s and have some of the basics covered (IRA, 401k, high-interest checking/savings) and am now starting to get more serious about this stuff (just opened a Schwab account, looking to do more than simply put money in the bank). Hopefully that helps give you a better perspective of where I’m at.

Go check out Suze Orman’s site, or watch her on CNBC. She’s one of the best personal finance people I’ve ever seen…

i am reading the wall st journal complete personal finance guidebook right now and it is really good. it is an easy read and has GREAT detail and industy lingo.
i also just read suze orman young, fabulous and broke. that was a good one as well but this other book sounds like it would be right up your alley.

I know everyone hates mentioning Dave Ramsey, but he is a good guy to listen to dependant on your level of fitness awareness. Dave Ramsey has a radio show on daily as does Suze Orman. I would also consult any literature that you are able to pick up from your financial planner.

You’re started on the right track if you’re in you’re young and investing.

the "dummies" series should help you, because they are not for dummies at all. they are fun to read, informative and easy reads.

    personal finance for dummies
    mortgages for dummies
    taxes for dummies
    etc

they are all put together very well, and give a good overall view of the subjects they discuss. congrats on the early start.

I think suze orman’s books are terrible, I like warren buffet, I think the black swan is a great book to read about the markets, gives you a little different perspective. I thought rich dads prophecy was interesting on the downside of mutual funds. There are a few more good ones on http://www.novelwagon.com. I would also suggest reading books about how the market actually works, like ugly americans and wolf of wall street.
