How do I get inbound links to my website?

November 6th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

I recently started a personal finance website and I am trying to find the best way to get inbound links without getting banned by the major search engines.

Here are a few suggestions, although there is a variety of methods and seo’s are constantly trying to innovate in how to build quality back links. The first rule of thumb is that if a company is advertising thousands of backlinks for cheap, it is probably scorned by Google so always beware of ‘too good to be true’ back link salesmen.

The best way, and most ethical, is to take the time in researching websites Google has ranked high in the search engines for relevant search terms/content, then send them a contact request asking them to trade links with you.

You can also write articles, make sure to include links to your website in the content, and publish those articles on a variety of article or ezine sites. If you have information on your new company that is newsworthy, you can launch a press release, that also includes links to your website, and you will see a number of backlinks from it’s distribution.

Submit your site to relevant directories. Do a search for personal finance directories and you should see several which should be happy to include your website. (Don’t forget to submit your new website to Google local (www.google.com/local) if you also have a business office location.)

Don’t forget social media! The more your website link is shared on Facebook and Twitter does play a role in search engine optimization to a very small degree.

I have included a link to an article by Microsoft on "Building Links" – their ‘How to Get Back Links’ manual so-to-speak. (I also included a link to our website – hint, hint 🙂

Hope this info helps!
