What do you do when you have no money to pay bills?

December 10th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

What should you do when you have used up all of your money and still have remaining bills? Mind you, this is not poor money management, but the result of all reserve fund being used and my wife still not able to find a job? Do you let the billers know? Or do you simply stop and pay when you can?

best thing to do if call them and set up an payment plan, they may give you an extension.

You should first ask for an extension on your bills. Then after that make some major cuts on your budget. If all else fails, move out and work at McDonalds.

You would first of all try your best to help your wife get a job. Maybe shes just shooting too high. No job is beneath anyyone when you need money. Second, you should definatly let your creditors know about your money issue. Most companies understand and can offer many ways of helping you. Unfortunatly you may end up paying back a higher interest rate or something in that end but a lot of companies will cut you a deal. Such as pay in the future or help you to set up a payment plan. DO NOT, under any circumstances, ignore your bills. That will set you up for a shitload of problems. You will ruin your credit rating and if you wait long enough you can have your wages garnished or be taken to court. Just let your creditors know of your problems and Start on getting your wife a job. Work search centers help. Also another thing you may be able to do but i would not consider it in most cases is to see if you can get a bank loan with low interest rates to pay your other debts/bills off. Then you can slowly pay your bank loan off. This is last case scenario.

Call who you need to pay, explain the situation, they’ll try to help you work something out. If you don’t call them, they’ll cut off the service, and it will effect your credit rating. I’ve been there and they’re always helpful in helping you work things out.

Call the creditors immediately, before things get too bad. Then try to get a second job or sell something. Prioritize the bills, house payment first. Communicate with the creditors and they may help you, or at least they will have info that you are trying. But they are more likely to be agreeable if you contact them prior to falling behind. If you don’t contact them they will think you are just blowing them off.
Good luck, I hope it gets better for you.

People kinda of expect to be paid. You will not be able to stay in your apartment and they will be turning off the utilities. You may want to try living with relatives until things improve.

You may be able to get rent assistance. When you are low income you can get lower phone rates. You may also qualify for lower utilities rates and car insurance rates. Things are always cheaper at the Goodwill and Salvation Army. Find the local food bank.

Personally, I went on to USA Jobs and applied to every open position. I eventually ended up with one. If you are young enough, you may want to consider joining the military.

I guess bankruptcy would be the last resort. I could never figure out how to pay a bankruptcy attorney when I had no income and could not pay my bills.

Well long term your wife needs to get a job. Even if it’s part time. You’ll have to find ways to cut expenses. No dining out, no smoking, no drinking, cut off the cable. If your non-working wife has a cell phone, lose it. No vacations, if you have two cars lose one. Turn back your thermostat at home, get those energy efficient bulbs. No gift giving.

As far as your creditors, if you’re not paying them let them know why. They’ll cut you a lot more slack if they know why you’re not paying rather than just ignoring them. Good luck and get your wife a job. At this point, nothing that’s legal is beneath her. You guys need the money.
