She is living with a relative and is certain not to be evicted or allowed to starve. We are all fond of her. Now she is safe is it time to get tough on the money management problem? What to do?

Look I know exactly how she’s feeling. I am so far in debt I can’t even think clearly. I struggle on a day-to-day basis just to provide basic necessities for my children. It is tough, stressful, and insanely depressing. When you are in so much debt, you naturally become slightly depressed and you therefore do not think clearly. Somehow this makes people lazy to managing money because it seems like too much work. They already feel defeated and have that mentality.

Yeah, I think you should show her some tough love. Don’t kick her out or anything because that’s just inhumane, but do just flat out tell her the truth. She needs to get her shit together, and start managing her money better. If you yourself are good with money, then offer your help. Maybe take her for coffee on a monthly basis and make a little date out of it. Those are always fun and you can help her manage her stuff there in a happy environment.
